6:50 AM
Oscar looked over at his sleeping bride, her long red hair draped over her shoulder. He quietly moved over and gave her a peck on the cheek. April smiled, he had a hard time not smiling himself.
He slid out of bed and approached the small kitchen their apartment had. With in a few moments he came back into the bedroom with breakfast ready.
“Good morning Mrs. Warren ,” Oscar said in a bright chipper voice.
She yawned, and opened her eyes. It took a few moments however her eyes locked on to him and the tray he was holding. She smiled again.
“You are going to spoil me you know,” she whispered.
“You are worth it,” he said putting the tray down over her lap, and then pinched himself.
“What time is it,” she asked.
“It’s about 7:00 AM,” he said tapping a tablet laying on the bed.
They spent the next couple of hours slowly getting ready, while they were anxious to start the day, they were also wanted their honeymoon to continue and to hold off having to rejoin the real world.
9:00 AM
They made it into the Walker Lounge. It was a circular room with exits connecting to various points within the underground campus. Many people only knew how to get to other locations from here using references to a clock. High noon was indicated by a bigger than life photo of Rysa Walker the founder of the Museum.
“So are you two ready for the big day,” Ellen asked running up to them as they entered from the 4:00 position.
“As ready as we’ll ever be I guess,” Oscar replied for the both of them.
They idly chit-chatted for a few more moments, as more people made it into the Lounge they had a huge group of people surrounding them. All of them potential travelers if this first trip goes correctly.
Doctor Justin Macumber made his way through the crowd.
“Oscar, April with me please,” he said as he got close to them. They followed him to a small meeting room just off the 11 o’clock tunnel.
“This is a big day, not just for you two but for the entire museum. If you are able to pull this off we’ll be able to have several more groups do the same thing. Are you two ready?”
“I think we are, however no one has told us where we are going yet,” April replied.
“Yes I realized that this morning, in all the rush to get you ready for anything, we somehow neglected to give you that information, do not worry though mission debriefing in the future will include that information. You two are going back about 300 years, are you two familiar with the ship called the Titanic?”
“1912, large ship, sank because it didn’t have proper iceberg protection,” Oscar replied.
“Those are the basics yes, take this tablet with you, however don’t let anyone from that time see it, it will give you detailed information about everyone you are likely to see. You will be provided with the currency required to obtain a 1st class ticket. In a few minutes you’ll be called into the Dilation Room, make sure you have gotten to wardrobe to get properly attired,” he said handing Oscar the tablet and then shaking both of their hands.
Oscar and April turned and went into costuming.
9:30 AM
“Will the Warrens report to the Dilation Room,” came a voice over the loud-speaker.
“Guess its time,” April said.
They approached the exterior wall of the Dilation Room. They waved to a figure they saw through the thick acrylic glass. The door slid opened, and they entered it. Behind them it slid closed with a resounding click as the curved wall became solid again.
“Is that …” whispered April, indicating an elderly lady seated in the observation area.
“…it could be, I didn’t think she was alive anymore,” replied Oscar.
Doctor Justin Macumber walked up to them, “This is such a great day, so much history to be made. I hope you two are ready!”
“We are Justin,” the two said in Unison. While most people with all of the fancy degrees that Macumber had after his name would prefer to be called Doctor, Justin always felt it was dehumanizing. Anyone who made the mistake of calling him Doctor, never did it a second time.
“I’m glad to hear it, even Rysa came in to see you two off,” he said indicating the woman in the observation chamber.
The lady in the observation chamber gave a weak wave, nurses buzzing around her to make sure she stayed awake for the proceedings. Rysa had been working toward this moment for the past 35 years.
“Just remember being that you are the first two to have fully interactive control with the past. You might feel a strong urge to try to change history, we have no idea how that would affect the present. Please limit any changes to as few as absolutely possible,” he continued on saying.
“Go ahead and sit on the chairs,” he continued.
April was moving slower than normal due to the clothing being unfamiliar and uncomfortable.
“You really should let us girls get more comfortable with the clothing before sending us out, when they dressed like this,” April panted as she sat down on the chair, with Oscar’s help.
“Good luck guys, remember your training, and everything should be fine,” Justin said has he tapped a few buttons, circles around the chair started spinning faster and faster. To viewers from the room’s perspective there was a bright flash emitted from the chair and then the wheels returned to their standby position and they were gone.
